What's Happening?

Housing: now and into the future

We know that having a safe and affordable place to live that meets  your needs is important to you. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey to help us understand what your housing needs are now and into the future. The survey should take you about 15 minutes to complete.

We want your voice to be heard! We would like to hear your stories and experiences related to finding suitable housing. This information will be used to highlight the housing needs in our communities. It will also inform municipalities, builders, service providers and others about what would help people find and keep the housing they need.

The survey can be found here.

Mi'kmaq History Month

October is Mi’KMaq History Month and we hope to be able to share many of the successes of our First Nations Peoples with our students. Events and celebrations will be taking place across the province, and a schedule will be posted on the Office of Aboriginal Affairs website:

15th Annual AEES Walk-a-thon

Our Walkathon will take place on Oct. 20th at 1:30pm.  Each student will be asked to get sponsors and it is our hope that each participant will get a minimum of $12.00 in pledges.  This year it is our desire to match or exceed $6000.  If students are successful, Mrs. Illsley and Mrs. Connell will kiss a big stinky pot-bellied pig!  Also, the top 2 sellers will get to be the principal/vice-principal for an hour while Mrs. Illsley and Ms. Connell go to their class and do their work.  Oh my!  Students are asked to please bring all monies in by October 25th to be considered for top seller.  Parents/Guardians who would like to walk with us will need their criminal records and child abuse registry checks completed.

First School Social

On Friday, October 20, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, the Home & School will be hosting a social at the school.  Admission is $3.00.  Activities will include dance, music in the gym, games in the cafeteria and snacks for sale in the cafeteria as well.

All students must be signed in by a parent/guardian, which includes a telephone number where they can be reached during the hours of the social.  Pick up time is 8:00 pm sharp.  Children are expected to follow the respectful dress policy, particularly regarding hats, strapless or spaghetti strapped tops.  Also, please remember AEES is peanut and nut sensitive and scent sensitive.

Halloween

We do not have traditional Halloween parties here at the school.  While we are happy to acknowledge the various holidays and celebrations of our community, our priority has to be to the provincial curriculum.  Parties with costumes, etc. simply consume too much of the day.  Also, if a costume is left at school, it can lead to huge tears at home.

Christmas Shopping Party donations

We are taking donations now for our Christmas Shopping Party.  If you have new or gently used items that you can donate to this cause, please bring them into the school and we will store them until the sale.  This is a great way to clear yourself of those extra items you no longer use and they will go to a good cause.  Items for Dads and teen boys are a particular challenge.
