Mi'kmaq History Month

October is Mi’kmaq History Month and we hope to be able to share many of the successes of our First Nations Peoples with our students. Events and celebrations will be taking place across the province, and a schedule will be posted on the Office of Aboriginal Affairs website.

16th Annual Walk-a-thon

Our Walkathon will take place on Oct. 19th at 10:45am (Rain date Oct. 22nd at 1:30 pm) Each student will be asked to get sponsors and it is our hope that each participant will get a minimum of $12.00 in pledges. This year it is our desire to match or exceed $6000.

If students are successful, the chosen students will be able to “do”

Mrs. Illsley’s and Ms. Connell’s hair!

Each student who brings in money will receive a chance to be the lucky student who gets to add a fancy addition to the vice-principal or principal! Also, the top 2 sellers will get to be the principal/vice-principal for an hour while Mrs. Illsley and Ms. Connell go to their class and do their work. Oh my! Students are asked to please bring all monies in by Oct. 24th to be considered for top seller.

Parents/Guardians who would like to walk with us will need their criminal records and child abuse registry checks completed.

Halloween

We do not have traditional Halloween parties here at he school. While we are happy to acknowledge the various holidays and celebrations of our community, our priority has to be to the provincial curriculum. Parties with costumes, etc. simply consume too much of the day. Also, if a costume is left at school, it can lead to huge tears at home.

First school social

On Nov. 2, 2018, from 6:30-8:00pm, the Home & School will be hosting a social at the school. Admission is $3.00. Activities will include dance, music in the gym, games in the cafeteria and snacks for sale in the cafeteria as well.

All students must be signed in by a parent/guardian, which includes a telephone number where they can be reached during the hours of the social.

Pick up time is 8:00pm sharp.

Children are expected to follow the respectful dress policy, particularly regarding hats, strapless or spaghetti strapped tops. Also, please remember AEES is peanut and nut sensitive and scent sensitive.

*Parent Information Session*

There will be a Parent Education Session held during the time of the social. Cst Cheryl Ponee will be informing parents of the latest trends on social media, the legal ages with each and criminal ramifications around misuse. The focus will be on Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, and online gaming.
