Changes to Gender Documentation in schools

In the coming months, the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will be making changes to how student gender is recorded in schools. These changes are a result of amendmants to the Vital Statistics Act in the province. Please click here to read more information about what changes are being implemented.

Do you have a new cell number?

If yes, please update your contact information at the school. Also, please let us know if emergency contacts or those numbers have changed. Its as simple as writing a note in your childs agenda. Thanks for helping us stay current with your contact information!

Attendance at AEES

Each year the staff of AEES expresses concern re. some students’ lack of daily attendance. For every student, more time missed at school makes it harder to return and establish relationships with peers and staff—the number one way to “hook” students into school.

For some students, the missed days in school receiving specific daily instruction around reading, writing, and math have resulted in those students receiving Cs and Ds or needing Individual Program Plans when they might have been able to meet the regular curriculum with consistent attendance at school. This is a huge problem.

Thankfully, now Child Welfare includes lack of attendance as another piece of evidence for paren-tal neglect. As per our mandate to disclose, we have been reporting lack of attendance to Child Welfare and Regional Office. At the same time, know we are here to help. Please, please let us know if you struggle to get your child to school regularly. We have lots of ways to help! Please send your child to school. We want to see them every day.
